Picture from David C. Heavner collection.
From "Images of America Lincoln County Revisited" by Jason Harpe:
"Going Modern. Lincolnton's streets were dirt until about 1920. East Main Street was the first to be paved with asphalt. Shown here are pavers putting down a coat of asphalt around the courthouse, probably in 1921. The first paved road in the county was US 321 north of Lincolnton in 1924, followed by a section south of Lincolnton in 1925, NC 27 East of Lincolnton in 1925, NC 150 toward Cherryville in 1926, NC 27 west of Lincolnton in 1930, and N.C. 150 toward Mooresville in 1934."
In the background of this picture is where "City Lunch" is today.
